Bradley Cooper wears Vivienne Westwood in Paris: fabulous or try hard?
Here are some photos from the Paris premiere of American Hustle. All Columbia Pictures could muster up for this international release is Bradley Cooper and David O. Russell. I am neutral on Russell (as a red carpet figure), and I admit to picking upon Bradley out of love. I still don’t understand why he’s been nominated for an Oscar for playing a character that he’s played a few times already, but I get his mysterious charm. BCoop is sort of my spirit animal in a way. He is awkward but hopes to be worthy of his colleagues. Will he succeed? Who knows.
This is my roundabout way of apologizing for writing a “fashion” post about Bradley Cooper. We normally don’t do fashion for dudes because — let’s face it — men only don suits based upon whatever their film stylists tell them to wear. In the case of BCoop and this particular premiere, it seems a bit more momentous than the usual film screening. Bradley is wearing a Vivienne Westwood coat. Vivienne is amazing on most occasions. She is one of my favorite designers of all time. Whenever Vivienne dresses anyone, I do take notice. In this case, it seems a bit … try hard? Even moreso than BCoop’s fug serial killer look for the Hangover III premiere. Does Bradley look fabulous or like a run-of-the-mill supporting actor here? Let’s take a good, close-up view of this jacket:
Honestly, this isn’t a bad jacket at all. The problem is that the look isn’t tailored at all. Bradley isn’t wearing this jacket. It is wearing him from every angle.
Beyond this fashion weirdness, Bradley is doing well on the personal front. He has somehow convinced his lady, Suki Waterhouse, to join him on the sobriety wagon. The Mail says Suki is perfectly willing: “Suki isn’t drinking any more. She hasn’t made it into a massive issue, but she’s spending a lot more time with Bradley and his family and drinking isn’t something that goes on. She and Bradley are pretty serious and they’re enjoying being together. Drinking isn’t something that comes up.” This isn’t a terrible thing. I support Suki supporting her man. It IS a strange move for a Burberry girl. Burberry traditionally hires the party girls (a.k.a., Kate Moss) and then pretends to be shocked when their models ship off to rehab. I guess Suki is running ahead of the usual model curve.
Don’t even ask me what David O. Russell is doing on this Parisian red carpet. Other than accosting poor Bradley and Voguing.
